Qalehong- In the beginning: Study Creation, evolution and eco-justice in the Cradle of Mankind.

A two-week intensive program 

For teachers  of religion and of science and curriculum and social justice coordinators in Catholic schools.

A unique opportunity

To have first hand experience of fossil sites and modern museums in the Cradle of Humankind

To link the theory of evolution  with the biblical tradition: the relation between science and religion

To look at implications for education in science and religion

To reflect on the meaning of the new cosmology and new physics for theology and spirituality

To explore implications for ecology and eco-justice – one of the pressing challenges of our time

Five two-day segments
each including

  • Input by key presenters: people who are at the forefront of human origins research and its interpretation

  • Excursions to places of significance in and around Johannesburg

  • Biblical and theological reflection

A range of individual and group processes

Presenters include
scientists, theologians and educators
with expertise in geology, human origins, biblical studies, and science and religious education.

 

Excursions sites include Geological Garden, Walter Sisulu  National Botanical Gardens, Roodepoort Sterkfontein richest pre-hominid fossil site in    the world, with new museum Origins Centre, University of Witswatersrand Cradle of Humankind Interactive Museum Maropeng, near Sterkfontein
