"I have grown spiritually in as far as my relationship with the church is concerned. God has become the heart and centre of my life - i put to practice my understanding of Gods Words in the scriptures by: leading the young people in my parish, leading the rosary at our block prayer meetings, i apply all the skills i have learnt from Catholic Bible College into my life using the Word of God in scripture thereby acknowledging that He is my source of guide. i can now use my tools to dig the Word and get closer to the creator.

I now have better understanding and knowledge of the teaching of the church ie. what it means to me and the importance of being a part of the Catholic Church in particular.

Personally, i have also grown in my understanding of prayer since it is where i get to meet God and speak to him."

Alumni 1999

In 1998 I saw an advert in the Southern Cross for the Catholic Bible College - "Give 1 year to Jesus" and I thought why not!

I joined the first group of students in 1999 and was the oldest in the group (40 years old). I know you can read and pray the Bible but study the Bible? What a shock I received! It took me a while to get used to the idea of the need to study the Bible.

How wonderful it was to discover all the riches within the Bible!

How my life has changed since joining the Bible College. I met my husband David there and the following year I was in charge of the residence. It was in the same year (2000) that Br Mike Chalmers asked me to come and work for the Catholic Bible Foundation; I joined in 2001.

I have never worked in front of large groups - I am not a people's person. I worked in the bank for many years and preferred 'books', the administration side of things. How God works! My life changed completely! Here I am today encountering people within our Biblical Apostolate, to whom we bring the different Bible based programmes. What a privilege to share my little knowledge of the Bible with others and in turn to be feed by their openness and enthusiasm.

In October of 2008 I was invited to the Synod on the Word of God in Rome. What an honor to be there as a representative of the lay women who are involved in the Biblical Apostolate; we were only two women from Africa. Pope Benedict attended all the meetings and all the delegates had the opportunity to meet him personally and photos were taken. My 50th was celebrated in Rome! If you had to tell me 10 years ago I would be working with people - I would have laughed!

Yes God works in mysterious and wonderful ways!!!
