Well Done! Good and Faithful Servant, Br Kevin McDonnell cfc!
On the 21st of October 2011, Catholic Bible College (CBC), together with past students, friends and associates of The College had a Thanksgiving and Farewell celebration for the Rector Emeritus of CBC, Br Kevin McDonnell of the Christian Brothers Congregation, after 13years of service.
Br Kevin came from Australia in 1998 to direct the activities of the new baby of CBF, which would train prospective pastoral workers of Catholic Bible Foundation (CBF) in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry. As the first Rector of The College, he was responsible for getting this project off the ground, and by 1999 The College admitted its first intake of students. He later expanded on the courses offered by The College to include socially related and relevant studies. He also established collaborative initiatives in biblical studies with other institutions such as Catholic Theological Society, St. Augustine College (Catholic University of South Africa) Johannesburg and the Jesuit Institute of Theology, Johannesburg. Br. Kevin retires to rejoin his congregation in Australia.
October 21, 2011 was a day that will be remembered by past students, friends and associates because Br Kevin’s contribution to the work of CBC was recognised with the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
After the Mass con-celebrated by Dr Michael van Heerden President of St. Augustine College and Fr Donald McLoughlin, Parish Priest of St Patrick’s Parish, La Rochelle, Johannesburg, the guests were invited to the hall for lunch, where Tributes were paid and gifts presented. Among the speakers were: Ms Bernadette Chellew (Rector of CBC) who gave a “Diploma of Excellence” in recognition of Br Kevin’s untiring service to The College. The first student to be enrolled in The College Connie Nkoane nee Skhosana and Br. Mike Chalmers, Director of CBF also paid tribute to Br Kevin.
| INDIA REPLICATES OUR BIBLICAL STUDIES |
The Higher Certificate in Biblical Studies programme offered by the College has been exported to India!
This is an exciting new development. We are pleased
to be able to make a contribution to making the Bible better known and loved in that part of the world.
The development has happened at the request of Brother Mark Da Costa cfc, a Christian Brother in New Delhi who was until recently, the Leader of the West Coast Region of the Brothers’ Indian Province.
The College is making all the learning materials for the course available on disc, and Brother Mark has undertaken to produce the sixteen Study Guides required,
locally and to look after the administration of the course in India, including the marking of assignments. The final open-book examination will be marked by staff at the College in Johannesburg.
We look forward to a long and fruitful association with Brother Mark, and to a growing number of interested students in India. |
